NSCAHH - The National Student Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness (NSCAHH) works with a coalition of students and community members across the country to end hunger and homelessness through education, service and action. Started a decade ago by the PIRGs and USA for Africa, NSCAHH is now the largest student network fighting hunger and homelessness in the country, with more than 600 participating campuses in 45 states.
Inspiration Corporation - Inspiration Corporation assists people to improve their lives through the provision of supportive services with dignity and respect. Inspiration Corporation currently encompasses two agencies: Inspiration Cafe (IC), located in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood, and The Living Room Cafe (TLRC) in the Woodlawn community on the south side of Chicago. Both agencies serve meals in a restaurant-style setting, as well as providing other supportive services designed to help individuals on their journey toward self-sufficiency.
World Hunger Year - WHY is a not-for-profit registered 501(c)(3) organization founded by radio talk show host and present Executive Director Bill Ayres, and the late singer-songwriter Harry Chapin. WHY sponsors two major fundraisers each year. Hungerthon is WHY’s largest annual public outreach. It is broadcast during Thanksgiving week to more than 6 million people with essential information about hunger and poverty. At the WHY Awards Dinner each spring excellence in grassroots organizations and the media is honored with cash grants.
National Coalition for the Homeless - The mission of National Coalition for the Homeless is to end homelessness. NCH focuses its work in the following four areas: housing justice, economic justice, health care justice, and civil rights. NCH's approaches are: grassroots organizing, public education, policy advocacy, technical assistance, and partnerships.
National Alliance to End Homelessness - The National Alliance to End Homelessness is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to mobilize the nonprofit, public and private sectors of society in an alliance to end homelessness. Guiding the mission of the Alliance is the Ten Year Plan to End Homelessness. The Ten Year Plan identifies our nation's current weaknesses in addressing the problem and lays out practical steps that our nation can take to change its present course and truly end homelessness within ten years.
Chicago Coalition for the Homeless - Chicago Coalition for the Homeless (CCH) "organizes and advocates to prevent and end homelessness based on our belief that housing is a human right in a just society." On their website you can sign up for action alerts (ways to get involved politically), find statistics about homelessness in Chicago, and read about their campaigns. Current campaigns focus on issues from prostitution to the day labor industry to legal initiatives.
